Frosty Morning

by Jane Whittle
frosty morning
one leaf on a tree
still twirling
sheep turn to face the dawn
a congregation in a field
of shadows
the shortest day
a robin hops indoors
to face the cat
alone on the shore
an old man watches the waves break
close to his feet
miles of still water
a lone fisherman, hand over hand
gathering clouds
last light
figures emerge from the waves
gods approaching
